The Evil Eye
:

This is a typical item most visitors tend to take home as a souvenir - you'll see them everywhere! It's called the Boncuk (pronounced "bon-dschuk"), the Little Magic Stone that protects one from the *Evil Eye*
A typical scenario. A woman gives birth to a healthy child; all the neighbours come and see the baby. They shower the baby with compliments, commentating especially on how healthy the baby is. After getting so much attention weeks later the baby is found dead in his crib. No explanation can be found for the death. It is ascribed to the Evil Eye. That's why nearly every Turkish mother fixes with a safety pin a small Boncuk on the child's clothes. Once a Boncuk is found cracked, it means it has done his job and immediately a new one has to replace it.

General Turkey tourism information

Airport & Visas:
  • Local airport is Dalaman. The transfer to Hisaronu, Calis, Olu Deniz and Ovacik is between 30- 50 minutes. Most accommodations can also arrange your transfer for you.
Visitors to Turkey are required to pay a visa fee at the airport on arrival. At the time of writing, this fee is £10 [per person (including infants) for UK passport holders, payable in sterling. Evening Entertainment
  • Olu Deniz and Ovacik are relatively quiet resorts and holidaymakers will often choose to travel to Hisaronu for a more lively holiday evening out. Calis is relatively lively but for the most fun the obvious choice has to be Hisaronu.

There are a wide variety of bars, restaurants, quiet tavernas and, for the more lively, two nightclubs – although don’t worry about noise as Hisaronu is subject to a local law which states that open air bars must turn the music down at midnight and these are fully enforced by the local police.
